Halifax come back to sink Vikings

Thursday 18th March 2010

Halifax twice came from behind to inflict Widnes' first defeat of 2010 with a 30-28 Co-operative Championship triumph at the Stobart Stadium.

The Vikings led 22-18 when Wigan forward Liam Farrell, playing on a dual registration, scored their fourth try on the hour but Halifax struck twice in the last 10 minutes through Shad Royston and Sean Penkywicz to secure the win that lifts the Yorkshiremen two points clear at the top of the table.

Thomas Coyle, deputising at hooker for ill Widnes captain Mark Smith, touched down twice, while Lee Doran and Richard Varkulis also scored tries for the Vikings. Rob Worrincy, Paul White and Lee Paterson were Halifax's other tryscorers.
