Dixon included for Cas

Castleford Tigers Head Coach, Terry Matterson has included Kirk Dixon in his 19-man squad for Friday night's clash with Hull FC at the KC Stadium.

Dixon (pictured) has been unavailable for selection so far this year, having suffered a blood clot in a leg during the closed season, the result of a knock sustained in the narrow play-off defeat at Wigan.

Dixon was Tigers top try scorer last season with 20 to his name.  Also recalled to the 19-man squad is Back row forward John Davies, 19, who this week also took up a season-long dual contract with both the Tigers and Co-operative Championship 1 side, York City Knights.

Notable absentees from the squad are Dean Widders (knee), Richard Owen (broken leg) and Brett Ferres who suffered damage to his shoulder in last weekend's clash with Hull KR. Brett is set to undergo surgery on Friday and be sidelined for between 10 and 12 weeks.

On announcing his squad, Matterson said: "Brett's injury is a big blow to us. He's an integral part of our team and it comes on the back of Dean and Richie's injuries. It's a real test of character for us."

"Bringing John (Davies) in to the 19 and having Ryan (Clayton) who didn't play last week, gives us options in his position."

"Bad luck for individuals does provide opportunities for others."
"Having Dicko (Kirk Dixon) available for selection also gives us plenty of options in the back line; it's good to have him back."

Should Dixon make Terry's 17-man match day squad, the former Hull FC junior will be aiming to improve on his record of 3 tries in 5 appearances against his home-town club. This record includes a decisive try in the club's 19-18 victory over the Airlie Birds in the corresponding fixture last season.
